Sources and data

On this website, we present the estimated trajectory of the (effective) reproductive number Reff in Austria using data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. We also note that the Austrian health ministry publishes data on the daily new infections online on the Dashboard.

We want to stress that the underlying statistical procedure was not developed by us.

As described before, our estimates of Reff are determined by the inference methods of (1) Cori et al. (2013) (implemented in the software package EpiEstim) and (2) its extension which was developed by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). International estimates of Reff for varying localities according using the LSTHM extension may be found at epiforecasts.io.

For Austria, the AGES (Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety) regularly publishes estimates for the development of Reff and carefully documents the methodology they use.
